Showcase Sunday #24

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

Melissa purchased White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout and Lash by L.G. Castillo.

My sister bought me The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion. It is a cute, easy read so I might read it as something light after I finish Allegiant. I picked up The Shadow and the Rose by Amanda DeWees which is currently free on Amazon and B&N. I also purchased A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin at Stuff Etc.

Showcase Sunday #23

Welcome, nice to see you again!  Sorry Rachel and I haven't been on here lately.  Not sure what we have been up to.  Anyways, glad you stopped by.

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

These last two weeks I've picked up The Guard (The Selection, #2.5) by Kiera Cass, Punished (Arelia LaRue, #2) by Kira Saito, and Every Day by David Levithan.

I've already finished the novella by Cass and looking forward to Punished.  Every Day is this month's book club choice so I'm obligated.  It does sound interesting.  I will probably like it, it's just not my typical Sci-Fi Fantasy.  I did watch the premier of Star- Crossed on the CW which is promising.  I will just have to get my fix that way.

I'm not sure what Rachel picked up if anything this week.  ;)

Showcase Sunday #22

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

Rachel picked up some more books from the second hand store.  She found some great books.  Peter Pan by J.M Barrie, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Oz, #1) by Frank L. Baum, and Princess Academy (Princess Academy, #1) by Shannon Hale.

I downloaded Be With Me the sequel to Wait For Me by J. Lynn aka Jennifer L. Armentrout.  My nook is running out of room on my table top, I better get some reading done!

I purchased The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner and An Invisible Thread by Laura Schroff at a secondhand store. I also downloaded Venture Untamed by R.H. Russell free on Amazon.

Showcase Sunday #20

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

Rachel had a good reading week, she purchased at the local second had store:

Gregor the Underlander, Gregor and the Prophecy of Bane, Gregor and the Marks of Secret by Suzanne Collins

She was missing a couple in the series and read them so fast that she needed to borrow:

Gregor and Curse of the Warmbloods, Gregor and the Code of Claw by Suzanne Collins

I've been trying to catch up on my reading so I haven't purchased anything new, I did pick up Goddess Legacy by M.W. Muse and The World of Divergent: The Path to Allegiant by Veronica Roth for free.  I'm still pretty upset with Allegiant, but for free I thought I would check it out.

Showcase Sunday #19

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

I can't believe how fast December is rolling by. We are only a few days away from Christmas and while I has been keeping busy with snowstorms, crowded malls and holiday events, I was still able to pick up 3 early Christmas presents to myself this week for FREE. If only I could get deals like that on Christmas presents for my family.

I got Hollowland by Amanda Hocking which was featured in our Friday's Featured Freebie last week. Melissa has started reading the Watersong series, but I haven't had a chance to read anything by Hocking yet, so I am excited to have a copy of Hollowland. I picked up The Woodlands by Lauren Nicolle Taylor which will be featured in one of our upcoming Friday's Featured Freebie. I also got Sunset Rising by S.M. McEachern which has the most gorgeous cover. The price has now increased to 99 cents so it is pretty much free. All three are distopias so I will have to be careful to break up reading these so I don't get a distopia overload.

Have you heard of any of these novels or authors? What books did you pick up this week?

Showcase Sunday #18

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

I am still alive even though it would be hard to tell by my recent postings. I have been going through a dry spell. I haven't finished a complete book since October. What is going on with me? Prior this year, I bumped up my reading goal to 50 books and for the first time this year I am 2 books behind schedule.

I started reading Shadows by

What did you pick up this week? How close are you to completing your reading goal for 2013?

Showcase Sunday #17

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

I think this week I bought, I guess it's bad when I can't remember what I bought this week.  I have so many books I need to read.  I might need to take a break from buying books until after the new year.

The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson for Book Club.

Rachel, what happened to Rachel??? I think we need a serious intervention.  She has neglected to borrow or buy any books for the past, how many weeks?  LOTS!  I've tried so many things, I gave her an incentive; if she reads the Lux Series (which will get her out of her reading funk, guaranteed) I will read The Selection Series,  I gave her my old nook, with enough books to keep her busy for the next two or three years and I still can't get her to read anything.  Help! What else do I do?

Sunday Showcase #15

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you sow what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

This week has been pretty slow for both reading and picking up new books. Late fall should be a prime time to catch up on my reading, but instead I have been watching a lot of television. I am hooked on the TV show, Scandal.

I know the next couple of months are going to be kind of crazy with the holidays and everything else that is going on but I am going to try my best to continue to read, review and blog when I have free time. Melissa, awesome as always, has finally got out of the reading funk that Allegiant put her in, thanks to Obsession by Jennifer Armentrout. So I might need to listen to Melissa's recommendations and read the Lux Series by Armentrout to get me out of my reading dry spell, but I need to finish House of Hades by Rick Riordan first.

This week, Melissa purchased Cursed to add to her Jennifer L. Armentrout collection and I pick up Unknown by Melissa Pearl free on Amazon.

Sunday Showcase #13

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you sow what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

I find it ironic that it is our 13th Showcase Sunday and Halloween is this week. Thirteen is my favorite number, but I know plenty of people who associate 13 with black cats and series of unfortunate events. However, this week has been a very fortunate one when it comes to picking up books. Even though I am still slacking on my reading, I was able to pick up a stack of potentially good books at Stuff Ect, a consignment store, while I was looking for some last minute items to complete my Wonder Woman costume.

At Stuff Etc, I picked up...
- The Last of the Mohicans. I loved the movie so I hope the book is just as good. Plus, I think this is something my mom would like to read when I am done with it.
- The Witch of Blackbird Pond. I remember adoring this book when I was a teen so I want to read it again when I have some downtime.
- The Unbearable Lightness of Being. I never heard of this classic but it has great reviews on Goodreads.
- To The Lighthouse. I haven't read anything by Virginia Woolf but I always wanted to so I thought I would give this book a shot.
- Moth Smoke. I read The Reluctant Fundamentalist by this author. His books provide an insight into Pakistanis' lives in the United States.
- Cleopatra. I find Cleopatra one of the most interesting women in history so I bet I will love reading a historical fiction book about her.
- Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. My mom and both of my sisters have read books by Barbara Kingsolver. I can't remember which one is their favorite, but now that I own this book I can just pick it up when I want to give one of Kingsolver's books a try versus having to venture to the library. I am not fond of going to the library once it gets cold and snowy outside.
- Starters. I haven't heard of this book series but it has a pretty good rating on Goodreads so I am pretty excited for this young adult read.

I got all these books for under $8.00. Now, I just need to figure out where to put them since there isn't anymore room on my bookshelf. I also received The First Phone Call From Heaven by Mitch Albom in the mail from a Goodreads' giveaway last week. I have read The Five People You Met in Heaven and One More Day by him. His book are great when I need something thought provoking that will renew my outlook on life.

Melissa purchased Allegiant by Veronica Roth which she has already finished. I am a little nervous about reading this book since Melissa wasn't very happy with this book and the ending. This weekend, another person told me not to read this book. Melissa also bought Embody and Image by Jamie Magee.

Have you purchased or read any of these? What did you find this week?

Showcase Sunday #12

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

This weekend is going by too fast.  It's Sunday already and I haven't done much of anything.  I did finish The Maze Runner yesterday and now I'm seeing trailers for Ender's Game.  It's never ending, I'm half tempted to scrap my list of books for me to read this month so I can read Ender's Game.  The only thing that is stopping me is the fact that Allegiant will be released on Tuesday and I will be starting that book this week.  I noticed that some people are planning mid-night release parties for Allegiant.  Just a tad bit of crazyness for me.  I've already pre-ordered my copy and will be fast asleep while it's downloaded to my nook.  I wonder how many people will have it read before I wake up?  And you thought I had a problem?  I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Rachel is on a book break this week.  Which means that these are all mine!  I received a gift card from my team at work this week for Boss's day.  They know me so well, they got me Barnes and Noble gift card.  Yep, it's already spent.  I bought Legend and Prodigy by Marie Lu.  I want to get these read before the release of Champion.  I've heard really good things about this series.  I also picked up for free Evolution by Kelly Carrero on Friday.

Showcase Sunday #11

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

This week has been kind of slow for books. I must confess that I haven't read that much, if any this week. I have been a willing slave to Pinterest this week, trying to figure how I want to decorate my work cube for our Halloween decorating contest. I also have been pinning some images for the author, Heather Fleener's Ancients of Light Pinterest boards. I also did some fall cleaning. I don't think this week will be much better for me, but we will see.

Melissa purchased House of Hades by Rick Riordan which was released on Tuesday. I can't wait to get my hands on this one as well, but we are both concerned it is going to end with a cliffhanger.

I picked up Natural Selection by Elizabeth Sharp on Amazon for our Friday's Featured Freebie book. It looks pretty good and has a 4.29 rating on Goodreads so I have high hopes.

Showcase Sunday #10

Alright, I guess I owe you a new free book.  Yeah, did anyone catch that?  I posted a book that was our first Freebie Friday and Rachel even wrote a review for it.  Someone smack me upside the head please!  So in addition to Forbidden Forest, I also downloaded The Reluctant Amazon by Sandy James.  I've read books with Amazons in them, just not one about them.  This one grabbed my attention.

I also bought Seaborn by S.A. Bolich.   I've been waiting for this book to for over a year now.

Rachel borrowed Looking for Alaska by John Green from the library.

We received The Inevitable by Daniel Hope to review this week too!

Showcase Sunday #9

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

Bought: Melissa is currently addicted to anything written by Jennifer Armentrout. She downloaded the entire Covenant series. She also bought Ocean at the End of the Lane for our book club and Mentoring 101 for a work book club. I purchased the below three self-help marriage books at a secondhand store. I'm not married but they contain interesting discussion topics and are very informative about relationships in general. In addition, I had a New Year's resolution to read 6 self-help or self-motivating book in 2013. I haven't completed one this year so I need to get at it.

Daimon (Covenant #0.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Half-blood (Covenant #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Pure (Covenant #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Deity (Covenant #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Elixir (Covenant #3.5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Apollyon (Covenant #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
Mentoring 101 by John Maxwell
Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts by Les Parrott III and Leslie Parrott
The Seven Principles for Making Marriage Work by John M. Gottman and Nan Silver
Why Marriages Succeed or Fail by John M. Gottman and Nan Silver

Borrowed: I borrowed two more books from the library this week, which is a little bit less than normal, but I have a pile on my nightstand so I should be good for a while. I am currently finishing up The Hunt. It's about a human pretending to be a vampire in a vampire dominated society...to pretend or to be eaten is the question he faces everyday. I also picked up Tiger Lily which is a book I heard good things about from fellow bloggers. It is the story of Tiger Lily from Peter Pan. I wonder if I should read Peter Pan before this or  if the Disney's version will give me enough to go off of. Any thoughts from people who have read it?

The Hunt (The Hunt #1) by Andrew Fukuda
Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Freebie: I downloaded this one as our Friday's Featured Freebie pick. It is about a fifteen-year-old girl and Hades' twin sons, Hypnos and Thanatos.

The Gatekeeper's Sons (Gatekeeper's Saga #1) by Eva Pohler

Showcase Sunday #8

Showcase Sunday is a weekly meme hosted by Vicky at Books, Biscuits and Tea where you show what books you've purchased, borrowed, checked out from the library, received from giveaway, etc.

Bought:  As you all know by now, sorry if I keep repeating myself, I was traveling for work and bought the entire set of the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Borrowed: Rachel had some fun at the Library and picked up these books.  I swear that they need to limit her on how many books she can check out, I think this makes 30 books she has and needs to read.  Either she will be returning a lot of them without reading or she will have a hefty Library fine.  Rachel picked up the following:

~Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
~The Selection (The Selection, #1) by Kiera Cass
~The Elite (The Selection, #2) by Kiera Cass
~Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner
~The Scorch Trials (Maze Runner, #2) by James Dashner
~The Death Cure (Maze Runner, #3) by James Dashner
~Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
